Enable Function Keys in Boot Camp

Article ID: 106
Last updated: 19 Jun, 2017

When using Windows on a Mac computer, the function keys (F1-F12) may not work properly when using programs like Case CATalyst.  This is because, by default, the function keys control hardware features like increasing the volume, the brightness of the screen, media keys, etc.

This option can be changed so the function keys control software features like Play Audio (Shift-F9) in Case CATalyst.

  1. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, left click on Start, then Control Panel

In Windows 8 and Windows 10, right click on Start then left click Control Panel.

  2. The Control Panel window displays.  Left click on System and Security.

  3. Now left click on Boot Camp.

  4. The Boot Camp Control Panel displays.  Left click on the Keyboard tab and place a check next to “Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys.”  Click Apply, then OK.
